Hello Sweetie Pie!
Have you ever tried to cook a favorite recipe from a local restaurant? Typically, I shy away from famed local recipes here in Charleston as they are so special, but when the kids and I visited “The Free Library” downtown this week, I decided to make an exception. We stumbled upon this local cookbook called, “A Taste of Charleston South Carolina Restaurant Recipes.”
What I love about this cookbook is that many of the recipes are straight forward with few ingredients, which is great for kids that like to bake.
The local restaurant recipe that my kids wanted to try was the banana bread from The Sea Biscuit Cafe, (twist my arm). As many of you know, The Sea Biscuit Cafe has been a beloved destination on Isle of Palms for decades. Their banana bread is truly incredible, as is the rest of their menu, so I was super excited to give this a shot. My children decided to bake the banana bread as written in the cookbook, but I had to add one rule:
The kids had to put their own twist on the recipe.
The project paid off, and we created a breakfast masterpiece, Caramelized Banana Bread Doughnuts, or “Banan-fana Doughnuts” as they like to call them. Check this out. Thank you for your inspiration Sea Biscuit and The Free Library of Charleston!
